OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Oroua ■ County Council was held yesterday. [ Present: Councillors H. Burrell j (chairman), J. D. Vincent, J. Morrii son, W. G. Greenhow, A. E, Pearce, W. McLennan and O. McElroy. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as under: From Public Works Department, suggesting that local authorities confer re “Manawatu Gorge Road and Bridge Act, 1919,” at the Paiiiatua County Council offices.—Received and held over pending reply from Mr J. Pearce moved: “That j the clerk be instructed to write to I the Pohangina County Council asking ' if they would he willing to contribute j £SO on condition that the Oroua I Council contributed £IOO, or £1 from Pohangina to £2 for Oroua, for Avhat ' the work might cost either above or below the above estimate, for the purpose of regrading what is known aq Bray’s Hill on the Taonui Road.” — In support of his motion, Cr Pearce stated that there had been a good many complaints about that particular place, and last year the engineer had been instructed to take off a piece on the point, but this work had not yet been done. They ought to do something in the matter. He sug- ; gested they should take out a cutting | of about five feet at the top of the f hill and that the soil should be j worked back into the neighbouring gully, and what was taken off the top should be taken to the bottom of the hill to build up the road there. He thought the Pohangina Council should contribute towards the cost as it was j mostly Waiata people who werq affected and used the road, and he considered it was a fair offer. — The motion was carried.
