THE LITTLE BIG POLICY.
Dealing with tho railway position in his speech at Wellington, Sir Joseph Ward stated that when wo were beyond the coal trouble and had got the railways going, as wo would do before long, we ought to lay it down as a firm principle in* connection with the railways—he and Mr Myers and other Railway Ministers had done so —that we must have fast suburban trains. (Laughter.) We had had them before. ("No!") Well, wc have had them fairly fast —(laughter) —and wo would have them again—(applause) j and if we took up areas of land ten, fifteen or twenty miles from tho largo centres, we could hope to find a quarter-acre of land for a man to have a house on, and have a garden, and keep fowls and a littlo pig.
