SENSIBLE SUGGESTIONS.
The Borough Engineer reported as follows in regard to the gravel pit to the Council last evening: The crusher recently installed in tho new position was given a trial run during the past week, and gave every satisfaction. It has not been possible so far, on account of the small quantity of material crushed, to give the exact cost per yard, but from -what has been done it appears quite possible that a saving of at least 4/6 per yard will be made. It must be remembered that this saving will only be made so long u,s there are boulders in the pit to the crushed; when the pit has been cleaned up wc will have to return to the liver for our supply of boulders. At present the crusher is being served by three carts, and I feel sure a further saving could bo made by fitting up an inclined tramway over which trucks would be hauled by a winch operated by the surplus steam from the portable engine. I suggest that some of the existing storage bins bo dismantled,, and the sound material utilised for tho staging of tho inclined way. The cost, I estimate, will bo about £IOO.
