A SHOOTING FATALITY. (Per Press Association. ) WHAKATANE, September 1. Nelson Semmens, aged about 30, a milker for E. Webster, Opouriao, was found on the farm with the upper part of his head blown off to-day. Particulars disclose that deceased borrowed a gun from the homestead on the farm yesterday, saying he wanted to shoot a hawk. On the man being missed, the police were notified this morning, and Constable Greenslade searched the farm and found the man’s dead body on a cattle track leading to a lagoon. The shotgun was pointing to the head. KILLED by a train. (Per Press Association.) HOKITIKA, I .ast Night. A fatal accident occurred on the Hokitika-Ross railway this afternoon. When the train was leaving the Manauui station, Richard Haruing, aged 67, a passenger from Hokitika, who had got out, attempted to get on the moving train. He was dragged between the carriages and shockingly mutilated. Death was instantaneous. Deceased was a widower, working at the Ruatapu sawmill. He leaves a grown-up family 7 , one son residing at Timaru, and two daughters at the Bluff’. MAORI WOMAN DROWNED. (Per Press Association.) ROTORUA, Last Night. An elderly native woman, Ngarota, was found dead by her granddaughter in a warm pool at Rotorua on Monday night. FALL FROM A CLIFF. (Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Last Night. Information was received by the police this afternoon that Robert Walker, a single man., aged 32 years, cmploy'ed as a station hand at Waipaoa station, had fallen over a cliff and was killed. No details are yet to hand.
