Much work has been accomplished by the various guilds and iady helpers and special thanks are due to all those who kindly gave contributions as per balance-sheet to enable the regular supply of parcels, etc., for the soldiers. Many letters of appreciation were received from both officers and men. The hon. secretary, Mrs E. Fraser, j reports as follows: —I beg to report that for the year ending July 33, 1918, 0613 articles and 90 yards of material have been received from the following guilds: Central, West End, Terrace End, Hokowhitu, Congregational, Kairauga, Ashhurst, Linton, Pohangina, Tiakitaluina and Karcrc, Kelvin Grove, Newbury, Lower Aorangi, Women’s National Reserve, and the following schools: College Street,. Campbell Street, West End, Hiwiuui and Terraco End, also numerous articles from residents of Palmerston North and district. All these wore carefully sorted from time-to time and packed and sent to the following organisations: —Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, Mayoress Patriotic Fund (Wellington), Red Cross Depot (Wellington), Aotea Home (Egypt), Awapuni Camp, and Public Hospital. Large numbers of parcels wore given to soldiers in need of them when going into camp and away on hospital ships, etc; 5500 parcels were despatched to Egypt and France; clothing lias also been collected and distributed to soldiers’ wives and children. The surplus clothing after the signing of the armistice has oeen distributed to re turned soldiers, the total, including cigarettes, tobacco, etc., being 1107. The Mayoress suggests that a portion of 'the fund should bo devoted towards the purchase of more articles of clothing to provide if possible all of the returned men with a parcel. There is also great need for a motor-car for ■the invalid soldiers at the liic Red Cross Committee is at present considering the question of buying one, anti it is recommended that a donation of £59 be made towards the purchase. The balance of the fund might safely be allowed to remain in the bank case of any urgent need arising in the near future. The Mayoress aud her committee desire to thank all those who have so generously given and worked so hard in the interests of the soldiers and their dependents, also to Mr E.
