The visitors arc a fine team, although the game was somewhat of a scrambling nature. AUCKLAND 42, TARANAKI 9. j (Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Saturday. A representative Rugby football match between Auckland and Taranaki was played to-day in the presence of 10,000 spectators. The game needs little description, Auckland \vinnir.g by 42 points to 9. In the first spell Taranaki showed .< some promise, and at half-time the j scores were Auckland 19, Taranaki nil. ! Auckland held the. upper hand through- { out the second spell, although Taranaki succeeded in crossing the home line three times, the game ended Auckland 42, Taranaki 9. LEAGUE MATCH. AUSTRALIA 45, NEW ZEALAND 21. (Per Press Association.' WELLINGTON, Saturday. The League match, Australia versus New Zealand, was played on the Basin Reserve. The weather was fine and the ground in good order. There was a large gathering to see the game, which was fast and open and resulted in a victory for the Australians by 45 to 21. Both sides made many fine passing rushes, and the tackling was good also. The game was by no means one-sided, the home team making many fruitless attacks. Johnston, who started many of the Australians’ passing rushes, showed great initiative, and Oxford’s place-kicking was very fine. [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] QUEENSLAND BEATS N.S.W.
