Members of the Bowling Club intend faroAvclling their president, Mr H. G. Smith, Avho is leaving for Hastings. In memory of their son, the late Pte. Jack Tansiey, the parents have had placed in position, in the Anglican Church a very nice tablet, surmounted by a cross. The tablet is suitably inscribed. Pte. Tansiey Avas from his boyhood closely associated with the church.

Rifleman T. Port, Avho left Avith the 25th Reinforcements, and was seriously wounded, returned to Dannevirke on Saturday. Misses L. and A. Fillman arrived on Monday from Gisborne. Their brother, Pte. F. Fallman, is due home shortly. Tenders are invited by the Akitio .County Council for the erection of a concrete culvert, and also for several metalling contracts on the Pongaroa and Akitio roads. Tenders close Avith Mr F. A. Lloyd, county clerk, Pongaroa, on Friday. ; The H.B. Farmers’ Association will hold a clearing sale of dairy cows and farming implements on behalf of Mr Rendlc, of Kiritaki, on Wednesday. Light luncheon wall be provided. MAHAS AH ARA. A public welcome home social will be accorded Privates W. and P. Gibson at the Maharahara Hall to-morrow night at 8 o’clock. All settlors of the district arc requested to attend.
