BACK FROM THE FRONT.
A special troop train from Auckland passed through Polmerston North yesierdrsv at 12.30 p.m. conveying the southern members of the lonic's draft. They were met at the station by the Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.), and the secrefarv and members of the Patriotic Society,"'and were given lusty cheers as the train drew in to the station. Those passing through were supplied by the ladies with fruit and cigarettes. A large number of Hawke's Bay men disembarked here and later continued their journey by the Napier express. Although the local authorities were notified twelve men would arrive for Palmcrston North, only the. following were identified: Capt. P. B. Cooke, Cpl. W. A. Sutton, L.-Cpl. T. Finnic, and Driver J. W. Temperlev. Sister M. Crook also arrived On the previous day the following men put in an appearance: Majors D. E. and J. E. L. Gardner (sons of Mr 11. Gardner), of Terrace End; Lieut. H. T. B. Drew, and Pte. E. P. Jenson.
