VICTORY WAR LOAN.
WARNINK TO FINANCIAL SHIRKERS. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 23. Referring to the last war loan, the Acting-Minister of Finance (Hon. A. M. Myers) stated that all the amounts taken up by subscribers in connection with the £iio,ooo,ooo Victory . War Loan would be taken into consideration in respect of the operation of the compulsory clauses of the Finance Act. He added: "As subscriptions are now being received by the Treasury, it is not considered necessary to fix a definite date for the closing' of the loan. There is a large amount of money available for investment, as the banking ligures disclosed at the end of last quarter, and I anticipate a fairly largo subscription being received by the Treasury this month. ’ ’
“1 want at the same time to stress the fact,” said the Minister, “that there must be no doubt, that those who do not discharge their duty by taking up the necessary amount prescribed by the Finance Act of last year will come under the compulsory clauses of the Act, which will certainly be put into operation for any who attempt to shirk their responsibility. ’ ’
