THE NORTHERN DRIVE
TERRIFIES THE ENEMY HE PERSISTS STRENUOUSLY ALLIES BBYOND THE SELLE. [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] ((Received Sunday, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 19. Reuter's correspondent at British Headquarters, writing on the evening of the 18th, states: The great northern drive has become mainly a question of keeping in contact. The appreciable progress made by the Anglo-French, pivoting on Le Cateau, would leave the Germans exposed to a flank fraught with possibilities of a rout, hence the strenuous resistance encountered by the Anglo-Americans under General Rawlinson. The enemy's counter-attacks at Larderimolan west of Ribeauville, Lavallee and Oulatye led to the fierost fighting this morning, with lessened resistance, showing the enemy's defence was broken. We progressed satisfactorily, the infantry gaining a line of railway west of Quesnoy. Patrols reported through Quesnoy itself. We are also on the west bank of the Deule and made a good advance in the Le Cateau region, being well beyond the Selle. NEW YORK, Oct. 19. The British have captured Wassigny.
