Many Glowing Tributes

DELEGATES URGED TO STAY. PRINCE OF WALES TO TOUR THE DOMINIONS. [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 7.20 0.m.) LONDON, July 27. Many glowing tributes to the work of the Imperial Conference are published. The '“Morning Post” strongly urges the Premiers to remain in England, “where their determination, ■commonsense and special knowledge are absolutely indispensiblo, in view of the likelihood of enemy peace efforts. It is largely due to the Dominions’ Premiers that the Government has declared its adherence to Imperial Preference and they should stay until the work is completed.” The King replying to the delegates' congratulations at the conclusion of the War Conference, said that the Prince of Wales hopes to tour the Empire immediately after the war. Sir Joseph Ward, interviewed at the conclusion of the Conference, said: “It has done work which is of the greatest importance in regard to the future of the Empire. The British authorities have taken immense trouble to collect information in regard to future trade and other matters.” Referring to Mr Walter Long’s (Colonial Secretary) announcement, he said it was a tremendous step forward in the direction of consolidating trade matters. Mr Long had now given some indication regarding what the British Government would do in promoting Imperial Preference. Most of the Overseas Dominions had already accorded preferential treatment, but, he believed the next step would be greatly in advance of what had already been done. (Received Sunday, 7.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 26. Mr Massey Interviewed said: The Imperial Conference resulted in a great deal of really useful work, much of which must remain confidential. The Conference dealt earnestly and energetically mostly with matters which will prove of great importance after the war. The Conference w r as solid oa all questions connected with the of the Empire and the results will bo farreaching. More business was got through than at any previous conference.
