Slips on Main Trunk Railway

LINE COMPLETELY BLOCKED.

GOODS ENGINE DERAILED.

About 3 o ’clock yesterday morning a goods train from Ohakunc ran into a slip between Taihape and Mataroa, The engine was overturned, and six wagons were badly smashed. Fortunately, no one was injured. Passengers on the down express were transhipped into an emergency train, and reached Wellington about 4.30 yesterday afternoon. The Alain Trunk line is blocked by slips between Ohakune and Alarton, and it is likely that the obstructions will not bo cleared away for about two days. Passengers bound for stations beyond Alarton did not got past that station yesterday. A Press Association message from Taihape yesterday afternoon stated: Incessant rain for several weeks is causing slips in various localities on the Alain Trunk line. This morning the express was held up at Mataroa, just north of Taihape. Another slip is reported south of Taihape, into which a train ran and became derailed. Clearing gangs are being sent from Taihape.

The- Railways Department reported,, yesterday afternoon that it has suspended goods traffic beyond Marton. Passengers on the Wollington-Auckland express yesterday were warned that they could not bo guaranteed transit beyond Marton. and a good many cancelled their arrangements. It will probably take two days to clear the slip that was the original cause of the trouble. Another slip has come down north of Hunterville.
