RUSSIA'S OFFENSIVES.

Hearing a Decision.

GRAND DUKE'S BIG MOVE IN ARMENIA.

(Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.) "■/, (Received Friday, 9 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 6.

Russian communiques are always reticent about undecided battles,, but there are indications that the Russians are slowly gaini ug the upper hand in Galicia and Volhynia. It is estimated in Petrograd that Hindenburg ordered 600,000 reinforcements to the Kovel region. These initiated a series of violent counter-attacks wherewith General Brusilolf had to deal. The battle fronts of Generals Sakharoff and Tcherbacheff are now nearly a hundred miles, forming the base of a triangle whereof Lemberg is the apex. The latest fighting is reported in the upper reaches of the Zlota Lipa and the Narajowka. It is not clear whether the Russians have actually forced the crossing of the Narajowka. If so they will be in the rear of the main bridgehead def ending Halicz.

The Grand Butte Nicholas's move in Armenia on a wide front is covered by the guns of the Black Sea fleet. The Russian offensive was timed the moment that Turkey 3 8 resources were drained for Lemberg's defence and the capture of the Dobruja.
