Jennings, Liberal-Labour candidate for Taumarunui, addressed a meeting last night. He complained of unfair treatment by newspapers, and read apologies for false statements. He held that the present prosperity of the country was due to Liberal legislation. He favoured closer settlement, as in Belgium. He cordemned expensnve railway stations while money was needed for the back blocks, and objected to an irresponsible Board usurping the powers of County Councils. He promised to support the remission of rents on Crown lands under the Bush and Swamps Act for four or live years, and gave an illustration of the advantages of cheap money. A vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was carried unanimously.
