CRISIS INEVITABLE

. . rx XEW SOUTH WALKS COAL STRIKE.

By Electric Telegraph. —rress Association. —Copyright. Received .12.35 a.m. SYDNEY, June L A crisis in the Maitland coal fields appears to be inevitable. A notice has been posted at the pit head stating that unless the men worked the afternoon shift to-day the mines will be closed down. The men at the Greta mine did not work the afternoon shift, and those in other collieries appear equally determined. It is almost certain that those pits will be closed to-morrow, rendering idle nearly 4000 men. The executive of the Miners' Federation is not advising the men in the matter, but leaving them to light their own battle. An attempt will be made to confine the trouble to Maitland fields.
