A Bill attendant to the Immigration Act abolishes the residential license, and validates de facto monogamous marriages by registration. Provision is made for Indian priests to solemnise the marriages. There were disorderly scenes when Mr Smuts moved the closure when debating the land tax proposals. Messrs Cresswell, Madelev, and Boydell were ordered to withdraw. Mr Smut's attendant, deleting exemption. was caried by 40 to 20, and an attendant limiting'the operation of the measure for a year, was carried by 58 to 17.
