Driver Irwin and Fireman Terrett, of the Teniora mail, when tlie smash occurred, as cabled on March lltli, have been discharged from the railway service. Irwin states that he is not guilty of any carelessness or neglect of duty, and he told the truth regarding the signals. He did not expect dismissal. (Driver Irwin, who had charge of the Temora mail when it crashed into a stationary goods train at Exeter, telescoping a sleeping car and a passenger car, stated that the distant signal .showed a green light, showing that the home signal was up, but owing to the thick mist he was unable to see it. lie reduced speed as soon as he caught sight of the home signal at danger. The fireman shouted. "Hold her for God's sake," but he applied the brakes too late to avoid the collision.)
