SPORTING.

THE DERBY. WON BY DFRBAR. j By Electric Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 27. The Derby resulted:—Durbar 1, Hapsburg 2, Peter Mettermet 3. An immense crowd gave their Majesties a great reception at the Derby. There were thirty starters, equalling Hermit 's year. This was partly due to the Calcutta Sweep. One owner was offered £3OO to run his horse, but he declined. Kcntiymorc was troublesome at the post and drawing the extreme outside position was hopelessly left. Polycrates, Black Jester and Hapsburg were leading at Tottenham, but Durbar forged ahead descending the lrill and went right away.in the straight winning easily by three lengths. The King's horse, Brakespear, was sixth. Durbar's connections little fancied his chance, as his French winnings were small. THE PCBLIC STUNNED AND SILENT.

Received 7.15 p.m. (Times. —Sydney Sun Service.) LONDON, Mav 27

The Derby, spectacularly, was disappointing. There was a tedious delay of twenty-one minntvs at the post and a false start. The only untoward event occurred when a suffragette named Ada Rice fired a pistol containing a blank cartridge at a policeman who was clearing the course. It burned the policeman's clothes and injured his leg. She was arrested. Mr Durgea, the owner of Durbar, is :i wealthy American. He went to France, where he established a stud farm when betting restrictions were enforced in New York State. He won 2000 guineas in 1912 in twelve races, and £15,000 in 1013. The result of the Derby was a surprise and a tremendous win for/ the bookmakers. The crowd was stunned aiid silent. ADD STOCK REPORT
