At the Richmond Council meeting t e Mayor, Mr Webber, i.efending 1 imself against charges of disloyalty declared he ha 1 been persecuted by the press because he had the courage of his convictions. He disclaimed any disloyalty contending that similar opinions regarding monarchical government had been expressed by the Prime Minister and other leading politicians and they were not called to account. He realised that in his public p sition he had no right to force his views upon others ami woald bear «;his in mind at future functions.
