CAMPBELL STREET SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

ANNUAL REPORT.

The report of the outgoing committee of the Campbell street school to the householders' meeting will be as follows During the past year the committee have met regularly every first Monday in the month and the various members have in turn acted as visitors to the school and remedied and kept in repair and good order numerous appliances in the school and grounds. j , The bath question has received <son9iderable attention at the hands of the committee who have canyasssed the town for donations, but mp to the present have only a matter of £2OO promised and in hand, and as the estimated cost is £450, the committee have not felt justified in oalling tenders until the result of farther canvassing and future efforts tnown. It is felt that as no assistance is to be obtained from the Board of Education the committee must be in a position to open the baths free before committing themselves to the letting of contracts. This could easily be overcome if parents would assist by a more liberal contribution. For the latter part of the past season the upper Standards have been granted the use of the High School baths by the High School Board. The school has upheld its previous good record for discipline and attaiaments in and out of school during the Dast year through the efforts of the staff, under Mr Watson. The roll -number is now 768. During tho p&st tn6 &tt0n(l~ ance has been gradually growing, and on the children assembling atter the Christmas holidays it was found necessary to provide further accommodation and as the result of repreaentations to the Board, the Oddfellows' Hall, Cuba street, was secured, and 80 pupils transferred there which has considerably assisted the staff and added much to the comfort of the children. Mr A E Clausen was elected chairman, in Rev Thomas' stead, reference being made to Mi Thomas' excellent services. At the following meeting Mr C. Fraser, secretary, handed in his resignation, owing to his leaving the district, and the committee desire to express their appreciation of the excellent services rendered by him. Mr C. Horsnell was elected in The committee desire to congratulate Mr Watson, headmaster, on the ADDarent benefit he experienced as the result of his trip to Tasmania and trust that the corning year will find nim in excellent health to enable jiim to direct the good work already an established feature of the school. During Mr Watson's absence Mr 0. Warden acted as headmaster and the committee desire to bear witness to the verv excellent manner in which he carried out those duties. The schuoljsports were splendidly arranged by the staff.
