MANAWATU R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. OPENS TO-DAT. To-day the Manawatu Racing Club's autumn meeting commences and should the weather be fine a large attendance is anticipated as the entries are large and the quailty of the horses competing exceptionally good. The track is reported to be in good order. The secretary and • staff have evervthing well in hand and the outlook is promising. The principal event to be run todav is the Ninth Manawatu Stakes for which the fine total of 21 made the final payment. Some of the best sprinters are engaged, and a good race should follow. At present Sir G. Clifford's pair, Autumnus and Nightwatch, are in great favour, while Culprit and Jason are also spoken of as likely winners, while Gladiole, if well, should also' be prominent. The other event of importance is the Longburn Handicap for which Coroniform appears at present to be the popular cnoice. Other candidates spoken of are Obligant, Sir Solo, Merrivonia, and Lord Renown. Bon Ton, who was top weight in this event, was sent home again after the Trentham meeting and will not be a competitor. In the Karere Hurdles, Flingot and Kauroa should be prominent and Ngatimaru, who is a new hand at the jumping game, if she can fence alright, has a chance. Another new aspirant to jumping honours is Sam Pan. Blue Lake heads the list in the Telegraph witn 9.1, but it is thought her impost will stop her at the business end. Hermia and Makara have lots of admirers, while Sanguinary, if fit, must not be overlooked. All the hack events are well filled and Mr Henrys' adjustments of the weights make them appear very open.
