A FORGOTTEN FUSE.
<Pre»» Association.—By TeiogropA Inverca rgill, Lntt Night.
An inquest was held before Mr G. Cruickshank. coroner, at Nightcaps, concerning the death of Jamet Hewitt, a miner, who was killed there on April 2. Evidence was given by Archibald Dixon, deputy mine manager, to the effect that he drew Hewitt's attention to the fact that he was driving his place too high. Hewitt disputed this, and they both went into th» drive to inquire into the matter. The shot went off, and Hewitt wa» killed instantaneously. The theory advanced was that Hewitt, who was an experienced miner, had, during the argument, forgotten about the charge, tiie fuse of which he had himself lit. A verdict of ''accidentally killed through inadvertently approaching a live hiiot" wa# returned.
