SYDNEY RACES

MALBROOK SHOT.

Press A6Bn—By Telegraph—Copyrigh6 Sydney, Saturday. Bright cool weather has prevailed. This has been a stayer's day. there being no race (except two-year-olds) for distances under a mile and a quarter. Barios had the best credentials as a stayer in the Rous Handicap for three-year-olds and was a firm favourite. Tartanus got a lead of eight lengths at the five furlongs post, but Barios caught him at the distance and won easily. Jacamar, who is going to India, was a strong favourite for the Place Handicap, but failed to repeat his good gallops of the first two days, onlv got fourth. Hallowmas finished just as on the previous Saturday and beat the unlucky Lochano for the place. Both steeplechases were failures from the standpoint of number of starters, only four running on Monday, and two to-day. The Miser fell a mile from the post, leaving Sir Lethe to canter home. Piastre's absence from the Plate was due to the fact that his off foreleg was troublesome. A long spell will perhaps be necessary. Cadonia's usual pilot had not recovered from his Cup ride, and Lambert, who had done well in the long races, had the mount. Cadonia galloped kindly foi two mlies, and then, despite the riding, dropped back. Though he came again he was not able to wipe off the deficiency. Harpist, who was well ridden by McLachlan, was never further back than second.

The Nursery saw Malbrook, when showing a bold front in the straight, break a fetlock. He was destroyed. A fine finish in the last race brought a very succesful meeting to a close.

'J he owner of Yalidol lodged a notice of appeal against the Stipendiary Stewards' decision. Results:— Rous Handicap. —Barios 8.5 (Connell) 1, Tatanus 7.2 (Pinn) 2, Lita 7.3 (Williams) 3.
