BOROUGH PICNIC.

A DAY AT PLIMMERTON. The employees of tne Palmerston Borough Council yesterday held a picnic .at Plimmerton joined, by invitation, by the employees of the gas works. The employers of each group paid wages for the day, and also contributed to the funds. About 400 persons took part, of whom about one-half were children, the fares of all the juniors being paid out of the funds collected. The Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash), with Mrs Nash and family, were present, and also Or. Clausen. From other Councillors and Mr Jickell, who was in Wellington, apologies and messages of good wishes were received. The paity travelled by the morning train in six special cars. At Plimmerton Mr W. T. Wood, late of Palmerston, joined the party. Provisions for the day were abundant, and with sports and seaside occupations a most enjoyable time was spent. The contests attracted large entries. The most interesting were the baby competition and the tug of war. In the former, in addition to the winnerß of the first and second prizes, each of the others received some small token as a tribute to their beauty. Mr J. A. Nash was the judge. On the journey back all the children received presents pnd lollies, Ptc., in the train from the committee. Great credit is due to the committee for the success of the event, and to Mr Thomas Wood (secretary), Mr Haycock (handicapper), Mr Kennedy (starter), and Mr J. A. Nash (judge).
