THE TURF.

I SPORTING ROTES. X | (By "Bon Ton.") The Raugitikei Racing Club make their reappearance to-day, after, missing last season owing to losing their license when the number ot racing permits were cut down, but which was recently granted, J-' l © club have made several, alterations since the last meeting, including the ( installation of a silent tote and im- i provements to the grounds There is a considerable increase in the stakes, | £1790 being given, an addition oi £640. Given fine weataer there should be a large attendance, and some close finishes should be witnessed. The catering will be in the hands of Messrs Dustm, Ltd., who are sure to give general satisfaction. The train will leave Palmerstoa at 7,10 a.m. for Greatford. Dearest will be making her first appearance this season at Bulls, and if she strikes her old form should run prominently in the Scott Memorial. in which she is engaged. Pontiff in the Maiden is trained by M. King, and is reported to be very fit. On Tecent form Labour Day, Rangiatua and Lady Volga must all put up a fine race in the Scott Memorial. Providing Ngatimaru does not start in the Rangtikei Cup, lie looks well treated with 8.8 in the "Welter, but will find very strong opposition in Sampan and Muleteer. Silver Cluse, who is owned in Auckland, in future is to be trained at. Ellerslie by J. O'Neill. * Sleacombe, who was withdrawn at Feilding on account of the soft going, is entered for both hurdle events, but will probably start in the hack events. ' No doubt Hamurana, 7.12, will be .solidly backed in the Carnarvon Hack. This mare easily settled all opposition at Woodyille, but with horses like Royal Simon, Manakau and Tetikura this event should "bring about a fine race. In the Parewanui Hurdles Chief Marshall is carrying 14lbs more than when he won at Feilding on the second day. He jumps well, and is endowed with a fair amount of pace. Sunrose at Woodville got a bad run on both c"ays, and with a decent run to-day should put up a good fight in the Hack Hurdles. For the Rangitikei Cup no doubt Master Laddo will go out favourite, as he ran very consistently at the recent Woodville meeting. He ■will be carrying 7.10 including his penalty . The race is verv open. Up to the present this season Sir Geo. Clifford's colours have not played a very important part in classic events, his only win being the C.J.C. Oaks with Brown Owl. This time last season he had ■won nearly all the rich classic events with a strong team comprising Counterfeit, Autumnus, Winning Post and Masterpiece. The

last-named three are racing again i this season, but so far have not n\et with success. Peronilla, the Achilles fiVlv, who silenced the opposition in the Feilding Stakes so easily, has an engagement at Auckland at Christmas, and | on her recent showing she should 1 go close to crediting her owner j with the rich Foal Stakes, which i are run over six furlongs. j
