THE GAY GORDONS.

A BRIGHT PERFORMANCE. As was anticipated the production of" The Gay Gordons" by the Clarke and Meynell Opera Oomn«n» which the veteran manager Mr J. E. Moore brought to Palmerston vesterdav proved very bright find amusing. It is handsomely mounted, the two s°ts representing the Highlands at. the opening of the shooting sensim and the gardens of Melttose Castle both being most attractive efforts of Mr ! Phil Goatoher's brush. The two uoraedians, Tom Graves and David Jefferson as the Showman and his attenuated sod, and Mr Robert Jackson as an acrobatic and übiquitous Highlander, dominate the opening soene and the two fiisfc named have a large share in the rest of the piece which they pepper with low comedy in which Tom Graves infopes a touch of character as the bibolous Nat Siddons. In tins he is well supported by Miss Nellie Cozens as Charlotte Siddon?. The leading man is Mr Frank Lincln who, as Angus Gra9rao. rushes breathlessly and romanticallv tlirangh fif two act? and gave an element of fPFling to his live mssms w, th Miss Imesen as ti'O American heiress heroine. Miss Imesen is au attractive personalis and a gnnd dancer, and Miss NpII Finnis as Victoria Siddons was another pleesing feature. The part of Andrew Qaaiofcon. the American millionaire, was nlayd as a straight part bv that well tnown actor. Mr W. L. Montgomery, and Janet Mctho frster mother, had another well known representative of the "hgitimutfl" in Miss Maggie Knisht, an old time Now Zealand favourite. In fact i'io opera io a curious mixture if '"straight" drama and musical comedy, in which the mnsical honors go chieflv to Mr Oakrien Brooks and Miss Jahn who got their finest effect in the dnet with invisible oborus "I Love You." Mr Wenman was the producer, and an old New Zealand favourite in Mr Wynne Jones has h!s excellent orchestra in good musical form. There will ba a final nerformance tonight, wlieu there will be a special train from FeiMing. Last night's big audience was very warm in its applause.
