Some jocnlar remarks in the Watohman Notas in onr issue of Saturday upon a statement made by Mis Barton, the Glasgow lady who has been brought to conduot a crusade for the New Zealand Alliance, drew a reply from the visitor at her meeting of last oveuicg. At Wellington Mrs Barton was reported as having said that Scotchmen spent 22s less per head per annum in liquor than New Zaalauders, the inference being to those who did not stop to think that New Zealauders were a more bibnlons pßople than Soctohmen iu Sootlaud, whereas the reverse wbs the casei As was pointed out on Satnrday the Scotoh, r statistic9 were based upon a whisky basis of 4s to 5a per gallon, while the New Zealand statistics are based on 23s per gallon, the duty being IBs. This wonld at onoe show the New Zealander to be vary muoh more sohßr than the Soot. We have not the separate figures for Scotland to hand, but they would show ritill more favourably for New Zealand.
