THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.
A pleasant day aud a friendly orowd weluomed his Kxcßlleucy on his first official visit to Palmaiston yo&terday. As was voiced by the looal spokesmen it is a matter for considerable regret to Palmerston that his Excellency did not see his way to take a country resiuenoe here. Probably had he seen the district before He was committed to the other side of the range the story might liava beou different. Lord Plunkot was paitioularly well satisHad with his sojourn here and he waß wont to quaintly describe one of the advantages of living here as that it was "such an easy place to get away from." That is an advantage that is not shared in an equal degree by any other town of the Dominion, while the oharaefcer cf our industries and tho fact it this being a military centre Bhuuld have appealed to two marked predictions in his Excel« lency. However, if we oan't have him to live, at least we oan do bur to make liim ftel that he ib weloome whenever "he drops in."
