A FINE HUNTING DAY.

WITH THE MANAWATU HOUNDS

Glotions weather prevailed on Saturday aft?rnoon when the Manawatu Hunt Olnb held a "meet" at Rangitikei line, with the result that the largest field that h&B jet followed the hounds this season turned out, and there was also a very large concourse of spectators, and, as they could get a uood view of the hunt from end to end, they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon's sport. The 1 country hunted over wbs ideal, although the ground was a bit slippery owing to the number of frosts we have had latterly, and there were a few spills, hut in a field of thirty five this would be almost inevitable under any conditions. The drags were laid by Messrs L. Luinsden and M. MoEweu, and there were three good runs, the "Kill" taking place »t Mr H. McEwen's. Mr Bruce McEwen, master, had the field well in hand, and Mr J. Flanagan, acting huntsman during Mr J. Sweeney's enforced abßeuoe Irom the i field bwiug to Iris accident, worked i the hoauils finely, having tlio assistance of Mr J. L. Baick as whip. At the oouclusioc of the hunt all present were invited to a sumptuous afternoon tea laid out on the lnwn at '. Mr H, MoEtPRn and dispensed by the Misses McEwen. Mr D.
