At the inquest ou Bertram Armytage, the member of the SlmcM'etou Expedition who recently committed suioide, the Coroner perused a letter loft by deceived addiessed to the secretary of tho Melbourne Club in which he took his life.
The letter referred to the writer's disappointment at uot recei?iug an appointment at the War Offioß whioli lie was anxious to secure.
The rest of the letter referred' to the disposal of his effects and showed that he contemplatedfsuicide.
The Coroner remarked that Armytage was in the prime of life and had everything he could desireyouth, wealth aud health, but there was just one thing he wanted that he.could uot get, and it drove him to self-murder,
A verdict was returned of suicide, there beiug nothing to show the state cf his mind at the time.
