Or. S. W. Luxford left on a visit to Tauranga yesterday. His brother will meet the party at Frankton -Junction with his motor and they will motor over via Rotorua. The Hon. 0. H. Mills has been "called" to the Legislative Connoil. Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., is visiting Sydney, and Adelaide, and will be absent from Ohristchuroh for six weeks. Mr Geo. Lee, late of this paper, is now editor of the Christchurch Spectator. Mr Ranking, the Police Magistrate of Brisbane who was commissioned by tho Queensland Government to report upou the working of our liquor laws, returns to Queensland from Wellington to-day. Mr A. E, Remington, M.P., and Mr 3 Remington have returned from a trip to Australia. Captain Shannon, the new A.D.O. to the Governor, has taken up his duties. The Minister for Public Works, Hon. R. M'Kenzie, lias abandoned hia trip to the East Ooast for the present; and left Paeroa yesterday for Ongarue, where he will enquiro into the question of tho proposed deviation to tho Stratford-Ongarue railway. He is expected to pass through to Wellington on Monday. The ladies of the Broad street Methodist Bible Olass and some friends made a surprise visit to the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Squire, junr., Bunuythorpe, and presented Mrs Squire, an ex-member of the class, with a silver egg cmefc. 'A wire states that Mr Jainoß W. Marahbanks, enginoer to the Wellington-Manawatu Railway for several years past, has been selected out of 44 applicants foi the position of engineer to the Wellington Harbour Board at a salary of £IOOO.
