VICTORY FOR TARIFF REFORM.
CENTRAL GLASGOW SEAT.
(Press Association—By Telegraph.— Copyright). Received Maroh 3,9.45 p.m. London, Lsat Night. The by-eleotion for Central Glasgow caused by the death of Sir A. Torrance, Liberal, who in 1905 had a majority of 431, resulted Mr Scott Dickson, Tariff Reformer • 7298 Mr T. G. Bowles, Liberal Freetrader 5185
Conservative majority 2113 Mr Bowles kept tho Freetrade issne predominant. The Glasgow Herald, sinking the fisoal issue for the time being, supported Mr Dickson. The Daily News and Daily Chronicle claim that this Tory seat was won when Freetrade was in danger and has now reverted to Toryism when Freetrade had a majority of 300 The Opposition are jubilant. 'This is the first victory of Tariff Reform in Scotland since the general election.
Mr Bowles was for fourteen j earß In the Conservative fold, during that time being a member of the House of Commons for King's Lynn. At the 'general election in 1906 he was defeated by Mr Bellairs, Liberal.
