A MYSTERIOUS SHOT.
REVOLVER BULLET BREAKS UP A TEA PARTY. THREE LADIES ALARMED. A pleasant little afternoon tea paitv \v;i- rudely interrupted yesterdav." A lady stay in/; at the Grand Hot-1 w;n " entertaining Uvi lady friends!, and they wero cosily ensconced on a lounge on the second floor, under a bay window that faces All Saints' Church. Tea and cakes and conversation were enjoyably whiling the time awav when an alarming interruption suddenly scattered Ihe gathering in contusion. botnechiug crashed through the window and small pieces of splintered glass fell abuot the eais of the startled ladies. Naturally, they did not linger long on the lounge, and the tea party closed. Examination by one of the hotel staff showed that a small hole had been cut through the plate glass, about 2ft. 6in. from the bottom. Further search revealed a revolver bullet, slightly over half an inch in | diameter, lying in proximity to the lounge. It had left an impression on ] the dome leadiug from the lounge beforo it had dropped, spent. Considering the elevation of the window it looks as though some one had deliberately fired a revolver at it. Had the bullet penetrated the pane about eighteen inches lower, it must almost certainly have struck one of the la'lies. The matter has been placed in the j hands of the police.
