FEILDING NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.)

Attention is directed to an announcement appearing on page 8 of a great olearing sale of livery stable plant which Messrs Gorton and Son will conduct on Wednesday 18th inst., on behalf of Mr D. Younger at the Denbigh Stables, Feilding. The plant and horses are all in excellent condition and should command a ready sale. A 7-roomed house in Denbigh street will also be offered under the hammer. An axle on the 3 p.m. mail train "became" overheated at Feilding yesterday and burst into flame when the local staff poured oil on it. The Manchester Rifles fire a match 'With the Palmerston Rifles to-day on the local range. I predict a defeat for the Feilding men. A clearing sale of the balance of the stock of the Yankee Novelty Stores will be held at the shop in Kimbolton road at 2 p.m. to-day. Every line will be sold to the highest bidder. A Feilding business man had his bicycle taken from opposite his shop a little over a week ago, and was just becoming reconciled to his loss when he espied a machine similar to his in all respects, but minus mud guards and brake, reclining against a verandah post in the town yesterday. After comparing the number of the machine with the number of the one he lost he claimed ownership, much to the discomforture of a man from the country, whose explanation was that it was left with him by another fellow. Bicycle thefts are becoming too frequent in this district, and an example should be set to men capable of an act of this description. What was called- a conference was held last night between the Feilding High School Committee, Mr F. Pirani chairman, Wanganui Education Board, Mr Hill, headmaster, and Mr W. H. McLean, assistant master of the High School. The meeting lasted until midnight. The ohairman of the Board and Mr Hill had' several rather heated arguments. Mr Hill contended that the Board had disorganised the teaching staff of the school by frequent changes of teachers. The chairman of the Board challenged this statement and the meeting terminated with things just about "as they were." The committee of the Feilding Athletic Club met last night, when it was decided to retain the privileges of the refreshment booth and to have same run under the management of Mr W. J. Jones. The tender of the Feilding Band was accepted for supplying muisc at the spoits. It was also decided to forward complimentary tickets to all donors of one guinea and upwards. At the Horticultural Show last night Mrs F. Billman was awarded first prize by publio vote for best decorated table, and Miss W. Drew for mantle decoration, while the judge's vote for table decoration went in favor of Miss Luxmore. AORANGI SEOTIONS SALE.
