The Minister for Labor returned to Wellington yesterday the better for hie week-end visit here. Mr J. L; Kelly, ex-editor of the New Zealand Times, has returned to Wellington from his visit to England. Mrs Harrison, wife of Mr A. Harrison, of the Palace Hotel, Wellliugton, late of Hunterville, died at Wellington on Sunday. Mr James Ashcroft yesterday leaohed his twenty-fourth year as Official Assignee. Nine and a half years of this term were spent in Dunedin, and the balance in Wellington. The Governor, who has been upending a week fishing in Hawera district, returns to Wellington today. Lady Plunket left for Auckland yesterday. Mr Fred.. B. smith a famous Y M.C.A. lecturer who was in Australia in 1904 is to be here next year. He is one of the International Committee of the Y.M.O. A. - Mr Thomas Mitchell, who formerly owned , the Aramoho Meat Freezing Works, and engaged unsuccessfully in law-suits, inoiuding a Privy Counoil appeal case against the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, has been adjudged a bankrupt at Wanganui. Bishop Wallis is in Taranalri. Last night he licensed the Rev. J. R. Oassell, M.A., at Hawera, and on Wednesday will license the Rev. J. P Mayo, M.A., atKiwitea. He will hold cbnflrmatiop services at Stanway to-day, Feilding to-morrow, Marton Thursday, Waitotara, Elthanv Sunday. , It was generally. feared that Mr Hall-Jones, Minister, for Works, would not again be able to take up the Ministerial duties now shared among his colleagues, but a cablegram received by the Premier states that he will leave London for Wellington in good health on the 18th Ingt., and be due at the Empire City on January 28. The Hon. Jas. Carroll and Mr Heke, M's.P., went on to Parawanui with Mr Donald Fraser, returning to Palmerston yesterday. They spent Sunday night at the Kaixanga and Mr Carroll was very pleased with the up-to-date concreted cowsheds, and the milking machine at the Wiani dairy farm. Mr Oarroll is much the better for his holiday and will visit Dannevirke and the Taboraite, Kaianga and other set tlements before returning to Wellington.

Two well-known residents, Captain W F. and Mrs Gardener, left Palmereton yesterday to take up their residence in Wellington where they will reside at Te Rurunga, Oriental Bay, and thence they purpose setting out on a trip to the Old Country about February Captain Gardner has been identified with this district and both he and Mrs Gardner will be missed.
