ASSAULT CASE.

John Hughes, a married man living »t Avondale was charged in the polio* court with having assaulted a girl of 18 named Eose Thomas, at Avondale, with intent to commit rape. For the defence it was sought to show that the prosecatrix was mistaken in identifying Hughes as her assailant. The accnseS" pleaded not guilty, reserved his dsfenoe, and was committed for trial.
