Dp Valmfcine Condemns

A report from Dr Vulintine, Assistant Chief Health Officer, dealing with the Chinese and Assyrian dwellings recently inspected by Mr J. Perry, was brought up at the Borough Council meeting last night. It stated that as a result of the inspection much improvement had been effected.

A number of dwellings, however, were condemned by Dr Valintino, and details were supplied. One four-roomed i-oUago was stated to bo in a ruinous condition, -tud occupied by Beven Chinamen. The stable wan in a similar state, the loft being used ac a sleeping room by aix Chinamen.—"l have no hesitation in con demning this building as unfit for human habitation " reported Dr Valintine.

A dilapidated Chinaman's building in Ferguson street was condemned, some of the apartments being very small and without proper ventilation or light. Fourteen men live-on the premises. Three Assyrian shops and a lean-to were condemned, and also a building in Broad-street, and th» smoke-house, preparing-room, and staples of premises lately occupied by a butcher. The report added that on receipt of full information as to the number of the sections on which the buildings stand and the names of the various owners, cond' lunation certificates, under section 349 of the Municipal Corporation Act, would be forwarded.

The clerk was instructed to forward the required information, and general satisfaction waß exprested at the outcome of Mr Perry'« inspection.
