What the Butchers Want

" I have to inform you that at a meeting of the butchers on the Ist inst., the following resolutions were passed: That the Mayor and Councillors bo respectfully urged to at once erect municipal abattoirs for Palmerston ; and that the the Hokowhitu site is not conTenient for all butchers." The above letter from Mr F. Attfield, secretary to the Butchers' Association, was read at the meeting of the Borough Council last night. The idea at-first was merely to receive the letter. Cr Goodger, however, dissented, 41 The thing iB not vetoed as far as we know. We are not going to let it die, surely," he decJared, and then moved that the letter bo referred to the Public Works Committee. " With power to act ?" asked a Councillor, "No, bring in a report; we don't want any more sudden business," retorted Cr Haydon. The motion was carried. J
