A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

Freezing Lambs for Export. | Result of Competition. / i The result of the competition , -'for freezing lambs sent to London Vy the A. and P. Association has been received by the secretary. The report •■/as forwarded by Messrs H. S. Filter and Sons, London, through tho Gear Compauy. ■ The lambs were exhibited at Smith, field on February 25, and great interest was manifested. A nurabor of persons interested in the colony wore present, including tho Agent-General. Several of the leading salesmen adjudicated upon the carcases, which were judged solely upon their merits as suitable for the English market. The following are details:—

Class 91—Five fat lambs, longwooled, bred from one flock, most suitable for freezing and the London market. First place is awarded to five lambs exhibited by Messrs Nelson Bros., Tomoana, H. 8., and of these Messrs Fitter and Sons Jay : " They were of very good qualiSy, but rather on the ]arge size for the ordinary buyer." Second place in the same class was also awarded Messrs Nelson Bros., the judges' comment on the entries being " Fair quality, but rather plain in the legs, not well finished, would look very dark when thawed out." Both lots of lambs were from crossbred ewes by Leicester rams. Lambs shown in the same class by the Hon W. W. Johnston, by Border Leicester rams from Romney-Lincoln ewes, were described as of good quality, but evidently cannot mature well at a sufficiently •mall weight for ordinary lambs.

Class 92—Down or Down crosses. Bred from one flock. Most suitable for freezing on the London market. First place in this class is awarded Mr John Strang, of Gladstone, Wairarapa, whose lambs are described as being of very fine quality and what is so essential for the London market had well matnred at a small weight, legs short and full of meat. Such lambs as these would always find a ready sale here and in the provinces. Mr Strang does not supply in the show catalogue particulars of the breeding of the lambs. Second place is awarded the Hon. W. Johnston's exhibit of Shropshire-Romney-Lmcoln ewe lambs. They were of good quality and a nice size. Some buyers who are in the habit of using a lamb of this sizo might evonprefer them to smaller ones. Nelson Bros, obtain third place with lambs described as of very good quality and useful for buyers who require a fair sized lamb. Mr W. H. Booth, Wairarapa, is placed fourth. His lambs tire said to be of very good quality and very meaty, not quite so even in size as others, two of them being rather large. Remaining exhibits were shown by Mr A. (?. Fitzherbert, Waituna, and his lambs were said to be of very useful size, especially for the province, but plain legs, not well finished. H. J. Manson. Palrnmerston, lambs of useful quality but legs too plain and size rather too large for the ordinary buyer.
