BUNNYTHORPE BUDGET.

What the Gale Did.

Dried Milk Scheme

Buildings and Improvements.

The Social Sidei

Own correspondent,

Bunnythorpb, Last Night. The late gale was responsible for a considerable amount of damage around here. Fences were blown down, trees uprooted, windows broken, and chimneys capsized. One settler experienced some discomfort through his cowshed being literally carried away for some chains from over his head while he was milking.

On Saturday afternoon a most enjoyable game of cricket was played botween Bunnythorpe and Hiwinui, resulting in a victory for the latter club. The bowling of Entwhistle and Little for their respective sides was unplayable, and the batting of Messrs Eanson for Hiwinui and Little for Bunnythorpe, great. The matoh was played at Mr G. Banson's. /

I hear there is yet every probability of the dried milk scheme coming to maturity, as it is evidently finding much favour among farmers, and I did hear a rumour that a section quite close to the township is likely to be purchased by the promoters for the erection of the necessary buildings.

Mr D. Reid, manager of the Defiance creamery, informs me he is putting through 1100 gallons of milk daily and the test is pretty good, the average test being 4.

A meeting of our Public Library Committee was held on Saturday evening, when it was decided to take steps to induce the settlers to take more interest in the library. It was resolved to have a social at an early date, and at such social to impress on those present the necessity of giving better support to this deserving institution.

The death of Mr Goldfinch is regretted by many in this district by whom he was well and favourably known. He lived for some time at Upper Taonui and during his residence there made hosts of friends by his genial manner and kind disposition.

More building is going on; a very compact residence is being erected for Mr Faulkner, in Baring street, and I hear of more going up. _ I hear the annual meeting of parishioners and the harvest thanksgiving are to be held in the Anglican Churcn on "Wednesday evening, the 16th inst""" There is a probability of the Football Club trying conclusions with a Palmerston team shortly.

AYe are likely soon to have a social gathering of cricketers to wind up the season. The popular Quadrille Assembly is also about to start again.
