The Central Hotel
Alteration To Be Carried Out
- Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., presided over the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Committee, hold yesterday. There were also present: Messrs W. T. Wood, W. Beck, A. Jack, G. W. Eavenhill, and H. Palmer.
Amended plans for the re-erection of the Clarendon Hotel were submitted by Mr Fitzherbert, on behalf of Mr Carroll. The plans showed that the hotel building would be of three storeyp, and 31 bedrooms were provided for, ac compared with the 14 in the previous plans. No objection Vvhb offered to the plans, the accommodation provided for being considered satisfactory. Several minor recommendations from the Committee as to lavatory arrangements were agreed to by counsel, and the plans were then approved.
In the adjourned application on behalf of the Central Hotel, Mr Hankins stated that the owner and the licensee had come to an arrangement as to the extra cost involved by carrying out the committee's suggestions. All that was wanted now was the consent of the committee to the plans. The chairman said the amended plans were not before them. They wanted to see them before approving them. It had not been understood that the plans were to be produced, and Mr Larcomb, the architect, was called. He explained how it was intended to carry out the recommendations of the committee as to providing more lighting arrangements.
The committee intimated that they would agree to the plans, subject to the alterations specified being carried out.
