MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Special Reporter.)

The monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present: Crs J. G. Wilson (chairman), Thos. Clark, W. Hammond, Thps. Masters, F. Robinson, G. Kendall and Claris.

The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows :—

From clerk of Glen Oroua Dairy Co., stating that the company was willing to contribute £5 towards the cost of culvert on Foxton-Sanson road.—Work to be done.

Prom Dr. Watson, drawing attention to insanitary state of Makowhai stream. —Sanitary officer to inspect. Prom the Rangitikei County Council, suggesting that the proclamation re Bulls Bridge should provide for maintenance of approaches.—Agreed to. From Coronation Hall Committee, Eongotea, asking Council to kerb and form footpath.—To be kerbed.

From Department of Eoads, with copy of agreement for expenditure of grant of £150 on Pyke's road.—Specifications to be prepared for the work. From Foxton Borough Council, with particulars of cost of repairs to Wirokino bridge, the Manawatu Council's share being 15s 6d.

From Stevens, Easton and Austin, Foxton, offering to exchange road lines mMotua Estate. The application was held over until numbers of the Council had conferred with Messrs Stevens and Co. on the matter.

From Wellington Harbour Board re election of one member.— Cr Wilson appointed delegate. From John Bleatley, complaining of the manner in which goods for Rongotea, were dumped in the trucks at Foxton.—Attended to.

From G. Gray, Bulls, stating that a case of whiskey carried on the tram had been broached.-Such goods to be locked up in future.

From F. B Sutton, asking Council to open and form L-.m ir street, Eongotea. Road to be opened. . From Cheeseman and Simpson, asking charge for carrying flax from Oroua Downs to Himitangi by tram.-7s per truck. - *

_ From Foxton Borough Council, asking that culvert on No. 6 Line ba repaired and sand-drift attended to.—Be ferred to Overseer.

From L. H. Greenaway, asking that the portion of McLennan's Line made last year be improved.—lt was decided to offer to spend £15 on the work if Mr Cireenaway would contribute an eaual amount. . *

From fifteen residents of Sanson, re questing that stock be allowed upon the public road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.—No action.

The treasurer reported :—General account dr. £3,070 2s 2d, loan account cr. £2,365 2s Bd. Biding accountsSandon Riding dr. £115 10s 4d, Kawa Kawa £26 Is 4d, Mt. Stewart £69 Os 2d Waitohi £29 5s Bd, Eongotea £238 9s 2d, Awabou £179 16s lid. The tramway manager's report showed that owing to extraordinary repairs enected the expenditure exceeded the receipts by £18 19s lOd.

OTHER BUSINESS. It was resolved to invite tenders for the collection of the dog tax. Messrs W. Eichmond and C. Hoppin" presented a petition from residents in laikorea road, asking that it might be metalled.—They were informed that it was the intention of the Council fo invite tenders for metalling the road by next meeting. The same deputation called attention t?ti i yin the completion of Mr Whisker's contract on Cooper's Line. The following tenders were accepted: —Contract 163, Stuart and Sons, 2s 4d per yam, and 2s 6d for contract 164 • contract 165, Davis and Lumsden 4s 4s, conditionally on the tramway being able to supply the 800 yards as specified, failing this supply 200 yards to be delivered on east end of road at 5s 6d par yard; contract 167, Davis and Lumsden, 3s 3d per yard; contract 170, W. R. Anderson, 3s lOd, conditionally on the tramway being able to supply metal as specified. That fresh tenders be called for contracts 156, 168, and 169. Tenders to be mby the 27th January, at 2 p.m. Tenders to be opened by a committee consisting of the chairman and Crs Hammond and Masters.

That tenders be called for improving about 20 chains of drain from the railway line to a drain known as No. 1 drain, near Oroua bridge. That tenders be called, to be in by next meeting, for metalling Taikorea road.
