BUNNYTHORPE.

(Own Correspondent). Bunnythorpe, Yesterday. I have much pleasure in chronicling that the Oroua County Council are making considerable improvements on our roads here, Mr B. Poole, contractor, and his staff, having made a splendid job of widening the road on the Feilding -Bunnythorpe road near here, which is a great improvement, as previously it was hardly safe for two vehicles to pass. I hear that Mr Poolo and his men are now engaged in lowering the grade of some of the steep inclines on what is locally known as Dixon's road, and they will then turn their attention to the Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst road where there aye some pretty steep gradients to reduce. 1 notice that our railway authorities have had one of the gates into the station yard moved. No doubt it was necessary, but it is very inconvenient to the numerous carters of wool, produce, and firewood. The extra line of rails recently put down is a great improvemant, and renders the passing of trains here much easier.

I am sorry to say there has been a serious amount of sickness in this pnrt of late in the shape of intestinal disorders. Amongst the sufferers I have heard of are Master Albert Jefferies, who I am glad to say has nearly recovered, and Mr Levi Jefferies, of Taonui road, who I am glad to say is out of danger. It appears there has been a kind of epidemic of this disease travelling around. I am pleased to note that our Public Library Committee has had occasion to erect more accommodation for the numerous books now in the library, and a substantial new cupboard with shelves has been erected.

On Tuesday evening the local Cricket Club ratified the following appointments of officials:—President, Mr H. Richardson; vice-presidents, Messrs Espiner and Gascoigne; captain, Mr J. Smith; vice-captain, Mr W. E. Gascoigne; secretary, Mr F. Little ; treasurer,' Mr E. Linton. The general committee comprised the captain, vice-captain, secretary and treasurer, with Messrs Burgess, Duthie and Mawhiney, and a match committee was chosen from these gentlemen, comprising the captain, vice-cap-tain, secretary, treasurer, and Mr W. Burgess. Arrangemeuts were entered into for playing a return match with the "Old Boys" on Saturday next at Palmerston North. The Club feel extremely grateful to Mr L. Lassen who has so kindly given them a piece of ground to practise on without charge.
