CRICKET.

The following annual report of the Manawatu Cricket Umpires' Association has been drawn up by Mr J. H. Hayhow, secretary:— The Palmerston North Umpires' Association was founded on October 27, 1902. The lack of interest shown in the matter at the first, and the constant reports that it would fall through, made a lot of work fall on the shoulders of the nine members who then constituted the Association. However, by hard work and constant attendance at cricket and various tneetings, the use of the Association began to be felt, and the end of the season found it a very useful and^ener, getic body. To those nine members are due the credit and complete' success which the Association has attained. The members then consisted of the following gentlemen:—Messrs A. Turner (president), G-. W. Holland (vice-president), W.-Bandall, E. W. Beadnall, H. Bryant, R.W. Goodgor, C. S. Pickering, W. Patkes and J. H. Hay how (lion, secretary). Messrs F. Foote, J. Bkelley and E. Pegler (members of the Manawatu Cricket Association) deserve also a word of praise for their assistance and advice during a trying time, and who, with several other cricketers, are now members of the Association. The Association consists" of twenty-two members, who have taken part in twenty-six matches during the season, and have umpired on no less" than one hundred and two occasions. Fifteen meetings have taken place, at which several knotty, points have been thrashed out and settled. The Association wound up the season with/a match against the M.C. Association.;' and after a very enjoyable garoei carafes out; victorious. The prospects for \ tlifei ; :c.o.ining- season are very bright and'! wo%oiiidjiirge. cricketers in other centres to follow' in Palmerston's footsteps and' we caa-;assure them they will never regret it.
