Instead of the question " What must I do for my employer?" substitute " What can 1 do ?" You will often, hear the false axiom "Obey orders if you break owners." Don't you do it. Always break orders to save owners. Remember President Garfield's doctrine: "The richest heritage a young' man can be born to is poverty." Do not forget that liquor and speculation are the bcylla and Charybdis of the young man's business sea, and endorsement his rock ahead. Itis a great mistake to think that the man who works all the time wins. Have your amusements. There is always a "boom" in brains; cultivato that crop. If tempted to speculate, say to the tempter that you would prefer to go to a well-conducted house where they cheat fair. I have known few young men intended for business who were not injured by a college education. An honest day's work well performed is not a bad sort of prayer. I would almost as soon leave a young man a curse as burden him with the _ almighty dollar. All pure coins have their counterfeits; the counterfeit of business is speculation. : It would bo a great pity for the community to shoot the millionaires, for they are the bees that make the most honey and contribute most to the hive. True education can be obtained outside the schools ; genius is not an indigent plant in the groves academic, but a wild flower found in the woods all by itself. . Nobody in the world wants to keep down ability. Everybody has an outstretched hand for it. Many men are to be niefc with in this life who would have been great and successful had the world rated them at the value tlioy placed upon themselves.
