DENNISTON SHOWING UP WELL. Per Press Association. , .Masterton, Tuesday. At the Band Contest in the B flat euphonium solo competition the following wastheresult:—W.'Staines (Denniston), 96 points, 1; D. Boyd (North East Valley), 82 points, 2 ; T. Gray (Wanganui), 78 points, 3. B flat Baritone —J. J. Cosgrove (Masterton), 74 points, 1 ; P. Dixon (Welling:ton), 62 points, 2 ; A. Martin (Wanganui) 56 points, 3. Bb flat bass —C. Hansen (Southland), 90 points, 1 ; T. Hughes (Taranaki), 71 points, 2 ; F. Hugglins (North East Valley), 66 points, 3. Gr Trombone—G. Boyd (Wanganui), 40 points, 1; J. Oliver (North East Valley), 24 points, 2; R. J. Young (Masterton), 3. The judge said the solos B bass and G trombone were badly chosen. In addition the trombones were really wretched.
The garden party in the afternoon as a welcome to the judge and the visiting bandsmen was a great success. The attendance numbered .several' thousands. The sum of JEISO was taken at the gates. Fourteen bands massed and played " Ex Animo " under the baton of Mr M. Cohen, the President of the North Island Brass Bands Association, with splendid effect.
The competitions decided this evening were quartettes and trios. Out of seventeen entered for the quartettes only six faced the judge. The : event was won by Wanganui Garrison with 97 points, Kaikorai, 80 points, being second, and Wellington Garrison, 68 points, third. Oi the eleven who entered for tlje trios seven competed. Denniston (92 points) j were placed first, Wellington Garrison (81 points) second, and North East Valley (66 points) third.
