At Masterton last Wednesday Mr J. G. Smith, junior partner in the firm of Messrs James Smith and Sons " The New House " Wellington, was married to Miss Sarah Chamberlain, daughter of Mr E. E. Chamberlain, a very old settler of Upper Plains. The Napier Technical School management has appointed Mr Battershill, formerly a local resident, an instructor of signwriting at the school. Mr A. J. Graham's many friends will regret to learn that he is confined to his bed with a severe illness. Until he is again able to attend to his duties Leary's chemist shop, of which he ia manager, will be in the charge of a competent chemist. Miss Meredith, mistress of the Feilding school, and her sister, proceed shortly to Edinburgh to study medicine. The Rev E. and Mrs Richards have returned from their holiday. Mr Richards will conduct the services in the Baptist Church, to-morrow morning and evening. On returning home they had a pleasant surprise, finding placp'd in their hall a handsome fern stand with ferns, and a nota expressing the love and good wishes of the Endeavourers. At Eltham on Wednesday, Mr Benjamin Morgan, of tho New Plymouth railway staff, was married to Miss Lilian Elizabeth (" Quc-enie ") Robinson. Mr Joseph Martin, of Gisborce, was married to Miss Margaret O'Rourke, daughter of Mr Richard O'Rourke, at St. Mary's Church, Meanee, Hawke's Bay, on Tuesday. Mr Maurice Cohen, President of tho North Island Braes Bands Association, will act as conductor to the massed bands which will perform at the garden party on the Park Oval, Masterton on Tuesday, February 3rd.
