Recent action in Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow,. nd elsewhere throughout the United^Kingdom has shown what can be done under the existing liquor law. In Birmingham half the licenses in three great areas have been surrendered through common sen?e conferences between tbe magistrates and brewers. In Liverpool stricter supervision and tho reduction of licenses" have considerably diminished the amount of drunkenness, the number of tha police, end tbe ratepayevs' expenditure.
