Naval Trials.

(Proas _-_sooiat7o_.-- ?opyrigiit.)

London, August 2G. _ The official report has been published of the recent race between tha cruisers Hyacinth and Minerva from Gibraltar to Portsmouth, for tha purpose of testing the different patterns of boilers.

The report says that the leaky joints in the Hyacinth's boilers, which are of the Belleville type, caused a very serious loss of water. The tubes of the Minerva's boilers, which are of the ordinary return tube type, choked.

The extreme coal endurance of either vessel at 7000 horse-powec was proved to be about 3000 miles. They can thus steam 1500 miles to sea and return to their base.
