The Hon. Major Atkinson delivered his Financial Statement last night, but owing" to pressure upon our space, and the late hour at which we received the instalment of the Statement wired to ÜB, : we are unable ;to produce it.in. our present issue. , Impracticable, we will give a portion of it inform, of an extra to-morrow. ■....: ..,' . .; _ . ■-■ „; v On the departure of the -Steamer. As the drama is jquite a novelty in this part of the, , world, and, , moreover, furnishes an exceedingly attractive • kind of ehtertiannierit there is good prospect of a large audience assembling on the 6th to witness the debut of our amateur Msiriories. > The Committee pf the Palmerston* North Borough Inauguration Ball have .been extremely busy during the past .few days sending out invitations 'and making other preparation, for^. the -coming evenß We understand -that' ; * they: intend to spare neither pains nor expense to make the Ball a grand success; '? The Tui arrived at Foxton yesterday, and leaves again to-day after the arrival of the midday train at Foxton. Written tenders are invited in our present issue by the Engineer-in-Chief for the erection of a coal store at Wanganui. Tenders will be received till Wednesday, the 15th August, and plans and Specifications may be seen at the Public Works Offices Palmerston North, Foxton, Wanganui and Wellington. A correspondent from Otaki writes us as follows : — " Two petitions to the Minister of Public Works have been going the rounds of the district for signature, begging to have an inland road made from Paikakariki to Waikanae, and from Otaki to Foxton. Why not have asked to have the road which has been talked of for years made from Paikakariki to Talmerston ? That would .indeed be a boon to the travelling public, and branch roads could then easily be made from the various townships to the main line. No one who has not had a bird's eye view of the country that would be opened by such road .could imagine its extent oc agricultural value." The Sandon correspondent' of the "N.Z. Times " says the following gentlemen have been appointed directors of the Sandon Steam •Flour Mill Company : — Messrs James Bull, D. B>. Lowers, H. Hammond, Henry Sanson, «T. Harris; George Phillips, Alexander McDonald, A^Baileyi.ahd Thorns Gifford. All the shares— 6oo ;in : number^rhave been taken up, and the greater part of the first call of 5s in the £ paid. The directors are now calling for plans and specifications forthe erection of the building, and are ascertaining the cost of the machinery, all of jvhich is to be of the most recent description, with all the latest improvements'. The Company intend if possible to have. the mill in working order in January next, in time for the'harrest. At the last meeting of the Cambridge Farmer's Club, the following motion was adopted : " That the Club askits .member to submit to the House of Assembly a motion proposing a bonus of £1000 for the first 1000 tons of salt manufactured in the colony ,at 5s per ton under the price ruling during the six months previous to mamufacturel.. The said £1000 to be laid out'in improving the machinery for the manufacture of the same." . "Mr J'. C. Crawford, the'R. M. of Welling-' ton has been granted 'four months' leave of absence, severe illness necessitating a change. The " Wanganui Herald " remarks :— The Wairarapians do not like the idea of the Wanganui district supplying Wellington ' with meat. _ -Wairarapa possesses plenty of store cattle, and it has becomeporfitable to buy. stores there and fatten them in our own ' more fertile district. - The News Letter says : — " To show how completely the West Coast has, absorbed the Wellington cattle trade we may say the butchers have about 2,000 head of fat cattle ready for delivery, and 'that three sets of men are continually employed driving them down. This state of -things does not look Well for ' the** Wairarapa." "Messrs Russell and Enberby, of Wanganni, who bought 500 head of cattle in this district are now on another visit, having come for the same purpose." Says a Wellington' paper : — lt appears there -is always "something 'to "do for^the lawyers, as another interesting case is said to bo on the tapis between a well-known shipchandler of Gustouf House Quay, .Wellington, and the Government. -The damages are said to be laid by the Government at £1,500, being the value of. a cargo of iron taken out ,of the brig Kate Monaghan at Manawatu. The case is likely to come be- ' fore the next sitting of the Supreme Court. , The "Argus" compares the present attitude of Hia Worship the Mayor to that of a mule when it " props." He will neither go on,- go back, or get out of the way. It goes on to say : — " Verily the ratepayers of \ the City will have reason to be glad when Mr, Hutchison's- term of office comes to ah ' end, and they can place in the Mayor's i chair someone who will consider the promo-,. , tion of their interests and the proper conduct I of civil business matters of more importance i than the gratification of ' his own whims and vanity." , <_ I Through the death, intestate, of Mrs i Helen Blake, widow, Earl's terrace, Kensing-' ' ton, the Crown has come into personal pro- I perky . to ,the amount of £14,000. Mrs ] Blake died last September, and all endeavors to discover any next in kin having been un-' ' successful, letters of administration were granted to the Crown solicitor on March 14th. .. i A Constant Destruction of bodily ' substance goes on, in the human system even I in a state of. health. This destructive pro- j cess is magnified fifty fold by disease when it so completely overbalances nutrition, that the system is speedily worn out. Kidney. j diseases, uterine complaints, rheumatism 1 'and undue nervousness cause a tremendous waste of tissue.. The loss of strength and substance engendered by these and other maladies, is most effectually compensated i for, by Udoipho Woipe's Schiedam Aeomatic Schnapp.s — Advt. '
